Proxies

Support: Proxies: Standard Proxy

Internet Explorer 5+:

  • Menu - Tools ---> Internet Options
  • Select "Connections"
  • Select the type of connection you use (DIALUP or LAN).
  • For LAN users, select "LAN Settings"
  • Click on "Use a proxy server"
  • If you wish to exclude local addresses from the proxy, check that box
  • LAN users should then click "Advanced"
  • Enter "tusk.cotse.net" as "Proxy Address", and "8080" or "8888" as "Port" for HTTP, Secure (SSL), and FTP services.
  • If you wish to exclude certain web sites from the proxy, enter them in the box on that page, separated by semicolons (;)
  • Click OK.

Mozilla Firefox (0.8):

  • Tools --> Options
  • Highlight "General" in the left column and click on "Connection Settings"
  • Check "Manual Proxy Configuration:
  • For "HTTP proxy" insert "tusk.cotse.net" and specify as Port: "8080" or "8888".
  • Enter the same information for SSL Proxy and FTP Proxy.
  • Enter the domain names of any sites you wish to exclude from the proxy in the "No proxy for" area, separated by commas.
  • Click OK.

 Lynx(2.8.4):

Search in the file lynx.cfg the row containing "http_proxy", decomment and modify it in this way: http_proxy:tusk.cotse.net:8080/ (or use port 8888)

Links (0.9.6):

In the file ~/.links/links.cfg modify the row for the proxy: http_proxy tusk.cotse.net:8080 (or use port 8888)

Netscape:

  • Menu Edit - Preferences
  • In the left column open "Advanced"
  • Click on "Proxies" and select "Manual proxy configuration"
  • Click "View" and at the item "HTTP proxy" insert "tusk.cotse.net" and specify as Port: "8080" or "8888".
  • Click OK

Opera 5:

  • File --> Preferences
  • Click on the section "Network"
  • Select the menu "proxy server"
  • Click on HTTP
  • Insert "tusk.cotse.net" as the server name and "8080" or "8888" as the port.

Opera 7.5:

  • Tools --> Quick Preferences
  • Check "Enable Proxy Servers"
  • Tools--> Preferences
  • Highlight Network in the left panel and click on "Proxy Servers"
  • Check HHTP, enter "tusk.cotse.net" as the server name and "8080" or "8888" as the port.
  • Check and enter the same info for HTTPS, FTP.
  • To exclude trusted sites from the proxy, check "Do Not Use.." box and enter site url, e.g., www.cotse.net
  • Click OK

Galeon (0.10.6):

  • Menu Settings -
  • Click "enable proxy"
  • In "Settings," click "Preferences"
  • In the window on the left , click 2 times on "Advanced" (last item at the bottom)
  • Click "Network"
  • In the right session, insert as "HTTP proxy" "tusk.cotse.net" and as port change "8080" to "8080" or "8888"
  • Click OK

Konqueror (2.1.1):

  • Menu Settings - Click on "Configure Konqueror"
  • In the window that will open click on the item "Proxies" on the left
  • Then on the right click on "Use proxy" and insert as "HTTP proxy" "tusk.cotse.net" and change the port from "8080" to "8080" or "8888".

NOTE: Please read our cautionary notes for web proxy users before using any of our web proxies.


We also provide support documentation for adding stunnel to your web proxy configuration. Please note, SSH is recommended over stunnel. It's not safer as they are same level of encryption, just faster.
