Cheshire seen as a threat to remailer system by not following rules of "safety." He was blocking all remailers which did not filter. Quite a step for someone who is a middleman, and not an exit remailer. I guess he learned arrogance at the knee of his mentor, the infamous frog. "Since it would be easy to dilute this community with rogue remailers we all need to adher to basic principles to which a true remop should comply. Failure to do so should be considered reason for higher alert amongst other remops and end users." phantom@nym.alias.net ============================================================== http://freedom.gmsociety.org/pipermail/remops/2003-May/012640.html [Remops] Cheshire conduct Phantom phantom@nym.alias.net Thu May 15 09:45:07 2003 Previous message: [REMOPS] Cheshire no longer blocking - just deferring Next message: [Remops] Cheshire conduct Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Although I feel with Cheshire on some issues/arguments (should his intentions be honest - but I'm not convinced they are) this remop's action puzzles me. I don't intend to be too neerdy paranoid here, but if someone would like to introduce problems in the remailer network he might be doing exactly some of the things this remop is doing right now. Introducing DoS in practise in the network can have devistating effect on the trust in the network. All those cries for censorship sounds really alarming and non-remop-like. If I look at the thread on "cheshire blocking non filtering.." (just one example - there have been others too) it contains some really gruesome posts by this remop. And sure enough others have commented on that too so it doesn't get past unnoticed. However how are the rest of the community going to act against this anti-traditional-remailer-attitute this remop is trying to lobby into the community? We should all bear in mind that the remop community is very small and it is very easy to keep track on almost every one of the individual remops should TLAs want to. You should also understand that there are cooperations between agencies in different countries as well as ISPs and telecoms - this has been going on for many years. So basically anyone running a remailer service would get enumerated by the TLAs should they simply have it on their agenda. And I would be surprised if they don't. Since it would be easy to dilute this community with rogue remailers we all need to adher to basic principles to which a true remop should comply. Failure to do so should be considered reason for higher alert amongst other remops and end users. I would like to advice cheshire admin to rethink his strategy. You are welcome to discuss any and all techniques related to the remailer services amongst other remailer operators, users and supporters but if you introduce one sided filtering, blocking and other privacy intrusive or censoring actions on your end and and feel you have to do this in order to be in "business" I too think you should consider doing something else with your spare time. cheers -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: N/A iQEVAwUBPsMwVZEe2bLNoEUNAQG02wf6A9/8ePHSGxp+5VPdD5WELwIBjEDqLU0W tWY/xjUjeohP8fzosyVO/SqaDDr9m7whNGpxEzm62BFygvh5M8tLDEA3uiUJdI4y utStdU1+TNI/tmoy3OyU2Y9npWh34g77205uof4jEOyTqxTA1ZQZdOc3QEPuj7kZ Q+7bxJXdTKHDipYn8UtNSu+gqePOfqUdJhR045PIC68QaaQtE077Rlr0Vzrms+Tt GX63q1zKlEvh+83TqfxKSFlqO3YL5ACNHxL3p9CXz2HUHcXmyOzUZdH5X1LsLrIV ctQiWTvQ3U+ILu8M8lABrL44goY44k3HH7VQ/xMHgLiJwr6cYLkJzg== =QdSH -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
